Women’s Addiction Treatment Program
Our distinct addiction recovery programs are tailored for women, offering a gender-specific, trauma-informed approach.
The Northstar Recovery program serves as a foundation for residents to rediscover their true selves post-addiction trauma.
Core
Programming
Each program is tailored to meet each person's unique needs, incorporating various therapeutic approaches that include individual counselling, group therapy, educational workshops on addiction and recovery, skill-building sessions for coping with cravings and triggers, and activities that promote physical well-being, mental health, and social skills.

Cultural
Healing
The Northstar program integrates spiritual teachings, workshops, and traditional Indigenous cultural practices, guided by Elders and Knowledge Keepers from local First Nations communities.
The program also features Wellbriety classes facilitated by Darline Barry. Rooted in Indigenous culture and tradition, Wellbriety offers a holistic approach to recovery, supporting healing across the physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual aspects of life while fostering cultural connection and lasting wellness.

Case
Management
A personal case manager coordinates with clients at each of our locations to ensure they are being heard and their special requests and appointments are coordinated.
Case Managers provide general support and advocate for clients' needs. They also connect with the families to provide updates on the clients' journeys.

Introspective
Writing
Introspective writing, which involves personal reflection and self-examination through writing, can play a crucial role in addiction treatment for several reasons. It serves as a therapeutic tool that helps individuals understand and manage their thoughts, feelings, and behaviours associated with addiction.

Education
Components
Each week at Northstar, participants delve into key topics, from the science behind addiction to practical coping mechanisms and relapse prevention. Led by experts and drawing on real-life experiences, the series provides valuable insights and strategies for overcoming addiction.
Each week at Northstar, workshops and personal reflection exercises help individuals develop a deeper understanding and a tailored approach to recovery, all within a supportive community environment.

Counselling
& Support
Northstar’s therapeutic support program provides residents with individualized counselling and group-based support throughout their recovery journey. Using a range of evidence-informed approaches, counselling helps women develop healthy coping strategies, build self-awareness, and strengthen the tools needed for long-term recovery. Group sessions also provide opportunities for connection, shared learning, and support within the recovery community.

Music
Therapy
At Northstar Recovery, women have the opportunity to participate in regular music therapy sessions facilitated by a licensed music therapist. These sessions provide a safe and supportive space to explore emotions, reduce stress, build confidence, and promote healing through the power of music.

Recovery
Bootcamp
Northstar’s weekly bootcamp program supports the connection between physical health, mental well-being, and confidence in recovery. Led by Certified Personal Trainer and Accountability Coach Rummy Black of Mana Fitness, residents are guided through fitness sessions focused on building strength, healthy routines, and confidence. Drawing from her own transformation journey, Rummy provides encouragement and support to help women work toward their wellness goals.
